The manes are cut short, the forelock (which is missing on the horse without rider) is tied up in a ring. The magnificent harnesses around each head are decorated with metal disks (or phaleras) depicting Roman gods.

Here also, they are not simply ornaments but equestrian decorations which had the purpose of obtaining divine.
